Abstract A refractory and thexmally insulating module for use in constructing or lining the walls of a high temperature enclosure consists of an open box like body moulded in one piece of ceramic fibre and having a front wall and side walls, a separate back wall formed of refractory insulating material and secured to the side walls of the body in spaced relation to the front wall, and refractory insulating material enclosed in the space between the body and the back wall. In use the outer face of the front wall of the body constitutes the hot face of the module. To control the temperature gradient between the hot and cold faces the insulating material en- closed within the module may take different forms or may be arranged in different ways. In a preferred form the body of the module is made by a wet vacuum forming operation and may be composed of a mixture of lower and higher refractory grade ceramic fibres.
