ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides a skid pad or lug for walking beam furnaces. The skid pad comprises a body made of a refractory oxide-based material and a shell made of a refractory metal alloy surrounding the periphery of the body. The shell cross-section decreases from its base to its top and a metallic reinforcement is embedded within the body. This invention finds use in siderurgy.
