DESCRIPTIVE ABSTRACT Refrigerating and heating apparatus using a solid sorbent. This apparatus comprises at least one compartmentalized reac- tor (2) having solid sorbents (4) able to fix at least one refrigerating fluid and in contact with a heat exchanger (6), means for the alternative circulation of a heat transfer fluid (10) between hot (8) and cold (12) sources, by means of the exchanger, in order to create in the sorbent a temper- ature front passing through the compartments, a condenser (22) and an evaporator (24). The thermal conductivity and permeability of the sorbent are lower parallel to the dis- placement of the heat transfer fluid in the exchanger than perpendicular thereto. Gaseous refrigerating fluid circula- ting means (28, 32, V1 to V16) create a pressure front pas- sing through the compartments with the temperature front. (Fig. 1)
