A B S T R A C T Refrigeration process and system, in particular for lique- faction of natural gas; comprising a closed refrigerant cycle provided with a recycle system for use during starting and stopping of the compressor or during operation of the compressor at low throughput. In order to reduce the loss of refrigerant caused by stopping of the compressor and in order to improve compressor recycle control, use is made of a gas/liquid separator which is arranged in the recycle system.
