Abstract In a refrigerator compressor, the cylinder block (4) is formed in one piece with at least one suction sound damping chamber (25, 27). It is covered at the end by a valve plate (6). A suction passage (28) leads from its end to the suction sound damping chamber. A tubular insert (34) of thermally insulating material is inserted in the suction passage (28). This insert (34) may have an arcuate terminal section (38) leading directly to the suction valve orifice (8) of the plate (6). This increases the efficiency of the compressor.
