An improved method of regulating enzymes which uses tetrahydropterins as cofactors by providing the co-factor in a form which is more stable than naturally occurring 6-monosubstituted forms. More particularly there are disclosed 6,6-disubstituted pteridines, their use to regulate enzymes, for example, in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, along with a general method of synthesizing these compounds.
