A regulator and brush holder assembly having a regulator assembly attachable to an alternator adjacent to the alternator's slip rings and a housing attached to the regulator assembly. The housing has a brush holder portion and a regulator compartment enclosing the regulator circuit of the regulator assembly. The brush holder portion has a pair of spatially separated brush holder compartments and a pigtail chamber associated with each brush holder. The associated brush holder compartments and the associated pigtail chambers have an open end and a closed end and are connected by a slot. Brush terminals are attached to the housing and extend into the open end of the pigtail chambers. A carbon brush is slidably received in each brush holder cavity and its pigtail connection is connected to the associated brush terminal through the slot. A coil spring engages the internal end of each carbon brush and produces force urging the carbon brushes away from the closed end of the brush holding compartment into sliding contact with the slip rings.
La présente invention vise un assemblage régulateur porte-balais équipé d'un ensemble de régulation pouvant être monté sur un alternateur, à proximité de ses bagues collectrices, et d'un bâti fixé au régulateur. Le bâti présente une section servant de porte-balais et un bloc régulateur logeant le circuit de régulation de cet ensemble. Le porte-balais se compose de deux compartiments porte-balais séparés et d'une chambre d'amenée associée à chaque porte-balais. Les compartiments porte-balais et les chambres d'amenée associés sont munis chacun d'une extrémité ouverte et d'une extrémité fermée, et sont raccordés au moyen d'une fente. Les bornes de balais sont fixées au boîtier et se prolongent dans l'extrémité ouverte des chambres d'amenée. Un balai de charbon est introduit dans la cavité de chaque porte-balais et sa connexion d'amenée communique par une fente aux bornes de balais associées. Un ressort hélicoïdal engage l'extrémité terminale de chaque balai de charbon et génère une force qui éloigne les balais de charbon de l'extrémité fermée du compartiment porte-balais, en direction du contact à glissement muni des bagues collectrices.
