A bone strength and mineralization regulatory ("BSMR") protein is provided that can exist in multiple forms and that affects bone density. Polymorphic gene sequences of the protein are provided that are diagnostic of predipostion to osteoporosis. Other detection tools, compositions and methods of their use also are provided for predicting, evaluating and altering bone strength and mineralization status. The invention provides new natural and synthetic pharmaceuticals that effect the BSMR regulatory pathway and improve bone status. Tools also are provided for finding new pharmaceuticals that operate by binding to BSMR and that activate and/or deactivate this protein's biological function related to osteoporosis and blood vessel formation.
L'invention concerne une protéine régulatrice de la minéralisation et de la résistance osseuse (BSMR) pouvant exister sous plusieurs formes, et qui modifie la densité osseuse et des séquences de gène polymorphe de la protéine qui représentent le diagnostic de la prédisposition à l'ostéoporose. L'invention concerne également d'autres outils, compositions et procédés de détection de leur utilisation afin de prédire, évaluer et altérer la résistance osseuse et l'état de minéralisation. L'invention concerne enfin de nouveaux produits pharmaceutiques naturels et synthétiques qui agissent sur la voie de régulation de la BSMR et améliorent l'état des os. Ces outils sont destinés à trouver de nouveaux produits pharmaceutiques qui agissent en se liant à la BSMR et qui activent et/ou désactivent cette fonction biologique de protéine liée à l'ostéoporose et à la formation de vaisseaux sanguins.
