A reinforced structural member (20) has a channel-shaped laminate structure of a metal stamping (21), a channel-shaped foil (32) and an intervening layer of structural foam (30). The reinforced structural member (20) is formed by pressing a foil/resin preform (36) into a channel (32) and thermally expanding the resin to form a structural foam (30).
