A reinforced container (10), particularly of thin gauge metal is encircled by a thermoplastic sleeve (22) which is shrunk thereabout for applying a radial squeezing force to give the container (10) adequate axial strength for withstanding the axial compressive pressures of conventional filling and closing machines.
