ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pressure vessel for the storage and transporation of hydrogen containing gases which is subjected to high pressure and high cyclic use and a method of manufacturing same in which the end portions of a tube-like member are reduced to form closed head portions having a wall thickness that is greater than that of the remaining cylindrical portion. A high-strengt undirectional filament material is wrapped around the remaining cylindrical portion of the vessel to the extent that the radial burst strength substantially equalizes the longitudinal burst strength so as to prevent failure in response to said cyclic use and to maximize the total pressure containing capability of the vessel in both the longitudinal and radial direction.
