A vulcanized rubber footwear product having an upper portion and a lower portion is disclosed. A method of manufacturing the rubber footwear product by vulcanization of adjacent uncured rubber components is also disclosed. The upper portion is preferably joined to the lower portion subsequent to the formation and processing of the lower portion. The reinforced heel of the lower portion has an inner layer of vulcanized rubber, an outer layer of vulcanized rubber, and a rigid heel counter embedded between these two layers.
