A method of constructing a retaining wall by connecting one or more layers of reinforcing sheet material, such as a polymeric geogrid, to the rear of one or more wall panels via slots defined in the rear walls of the panels having an angular locking section inside the panels adapted to retain U-shaped end sections of the reinforcing material carrying a connection bar that is cammed into the locking sections of the slots by a wedge.
