The non-destructive monitoring of the in- tegrity of reinforcements in parts of buildings and installations such as bridges, tunnels, con- crete pavements, conveyor belts, etc., by means of magnetic field measurement is considerably improved by magnetising the reinforcements be- fore their installation. A magnetisation up to the saturation point, of which there remains a rema- nent magnetisation after the magnetising field is removed, is particularly appropriate. Prefer- ably, magnetisation is carried out "on the spot" at the building site by means of a device which has a magnetisation coil with a mains supply circuit for the adjustable energy supply and el- ements for holding and guiding the prestressing elements through the coil.
