A reinforcing channel-shaped carrier (22) for a sealing, trimming or guiding strip is made of metal and provided with slots of several different types. Slots (30) of a first type extend across the base (25) of the carrier and for short distances into the side walls (26, 28) and facilitate bending about an axis parallel to the base (25) and perpendicular to the length of the channel. Slots (32, 34) of a second type are positioned in the side walls (26, 28) and facilitate bending about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the base (25). The latter slots (32, 34) are of two different forms. Slots (32) of one form are shorter than those (34) of the other form. This increases the stiffness of the carrier. The carrier is produced by slitting a flat metal blank and then rolling it along stretch paths (42, 44) to cause it to be thinned-down and expanded lengthwise to convert the slits into slots. The carrier is advantageously used in a sealing, trimming or guiding strip in closed loop form ready for fitting to a vehicle door opening.
Support de renforcement (22) en forme de gorge pour bande d'étanchéité, de garniture ou de guidage, fait de métal et muni de fentes de différents types. Des fentes (30) d'un premier type traversent la base (25) du support et débordent légèrement dans les parois (26, 28). Ces fentes facilitent le pliage selon un axe parallèle à la base (25) et perpendiculaire à la longueur de la gorge. Des fentes (32, 34) d'un deuxième type se situent dans les parois láterales (26, 28). Ces fentes facilitent le pliage suivant un axe perpendiculaire au plan de la base (25). Les dernières fentes (32, 34) sont de deux formes différentes, certaines (32) étant plus courtes que d'autres (34). Cette configurataion accroît la rigidité du support. Pour fabriquer ce support, on entaille une ébauche métallique plate que l'on soumet ensuite à un laminage le long de lignes d'étirage (42, 44), de façon à en réduire l'épaisseur et à l'étirer dans le sens de la longueur, afin de transformer les entailles en fentes.
