A reinforcing layer for the belt of a motor vehicle tire is provided. The reinforcing layer comprises a layer of material having a surface and wave structure, including main regions having a double wave structure provided with a first wave structure having peaks and valleys that are originally oriented in the same way, and a second wave structure that is superimposed over the first wave structure and extends in the direction of the peaks and valleys thereof. From these peaks and valleys, peak wave trains and valley wave trains are formed that are intersected by further wave trains.
