ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A reinforcing member for use in a grouted anchor is an axially elongated steel rod with hot-rolled helically extending ribs formed on its outside surface. The ribs form a discontinuous helical thread onto which a connecting or anchoring member with a corresponding counter-thread can be attached. The rod has a circularly shaped outside surface with oppositely disposed axially elongated recesses formed in the outside surface and located between the adjacent ends of the discontinuous ribs. The recesses provide the rod with a necked-down cross-sectional appearance. Axially elongated tubular members are positioned within the recesses and the tubular members are dimensioned so that they do not project outwardly beyond the circular line defining the outside surface of the steel rod. When the reinforcing member is inserted into a bore hole, the tubular members within the recesses are protected against mechanical damage.
