The invention relates to a flat security element having a front face and a rear face and a relatively-small format, such as small boards, and comprising, at least on one of the faces thereof, at least a marked-off authentication pattern and/or an authentication pattern resulting from combining and/or stacking a pattern on the front face and a pattern on the rear face, at least one of said authentication patterns being at least partially visible in transmitted light. The invention also relates to the production method thereof and security documents and sheets containing same.
