ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Relay protection device for series capacitors with measuring locations, arranged at high voltage level, with terminals for connection of safety circuits for sensing measurement values or disturbances of various kinds such as unbalance voltages within the capacitor, overload, flashover in a protective spark gap connected in parallel with the capacitor, flashover to the insu- lated platform on which the capacitor is placed, subharmonics, etc., and for generation of signals responsive thereto, auxiliary transformers being connected in at least some of the safety circuits. The protection device in characterised in that the secondary windings of the auxiliary transformers are connected to the primary side of a fully insulated current transformer, to the secondary side of which there are connected time- and signal-level sensitive relays for the various signals. The relays and auxi- liary transformers are so designed and coordinated that the relay having the shortest tripping time is set for the highest signal level, that the relay having the longest tripping time is set for the lowest signal level and that the other relays have tripping times and signal levels arranged in a corresponding manner so that a shorter tripping time is combined with a higher signal level and a longer tripping time is combined with a lower signal level.
