Disclosed is a release on demand type corrosion inhibitor composition for a metal substrate formed from only non-electrically conductive film forming copolymer(s): a nitrogen containing functional group X, where the group X comprises a pyridine, a dihydropyridine, a pyrrole, an imidazole, or a mixtures thereof; and a metallate anion. The metallate anion binds to a nitrogen in the functional group X by ion pairing. A localized rise in pH is believed to cause release of the anion via a protonation/deprotonation reaction and the released anion suppresses the corrosion formation. The coating composition includes no electrically conductive polymers.

La présente invention se rapporte à une composition d'inhibiteur de corrosion de type à libération sur demande pour un substrat métallique formé seulement à partir d'un ou de plusieurs polymères filmogènes non électroconducteurs, à savoir : un groupe fonctionnel X azoté, le groupe X comprenant une pyridine, une dihydropyridine, un azole, un imidazole ou un mélange de ceux-ci ; et un anion métallate. L'anion métallate se lie à l'azote du groupe fonctionnel X par formation d'une paire ionique. On croit qu'une augmentation localisée du pH provoque la libération de l'anion par l'intermédiaire d'une réaction de protonation/déprotonation et l'anion libéré empêche la formation de la corrosion. La composition de revêtement ne comprend pas de polymères électroconducteurs.
