A stream of hot oxygen is formed by providing a duct (3) and a fuel lance (7) movable axially within the duct, flowing gaseous fuel out of the lance into the duct, mixing it in the duct with gaseous oxidant, flowing the mixture out of the duct into an atmosphere which is hot enough that it ignites the mixture without aid of an ignition source other than said atmosphere, and combusting said mixture in a flame that does not extend into said duct; then moving the lance so its fuel outlet (9) approaches the duct exit orifice (5) so that the base of said flame moves inside said duct to the fuel outlet; and then moving the lance to draw the fuel outlet and the flame attached thereto away from the exit orifice into the duct; and increasing the flow rate of gaseous oxidant in said duct, so that combustion of fuel within the duct heats uncombusted oxygen which emerges as a stream of hot oxidant.
L'invention concerne un procédé visant à former un flux doxygène chaud en combinant un conduit et une lance à combustible mobile axialement à lintérieur du conduit, en faisant sortir un combustible gazeux de la lance dans le conduit, en le mélangeant dans le conduit à un oxydant gazeux, en faisant sortir le mélange du conduit dans une atmosphère assez chaude pour enflammer le mélange sans assistance dune source dallumage autre que ladite atmosphère et en brûlant ledit mélange en une flamme qui ne sétend pas jusque dans ledit conduit; puis en déplaçant la lance de telle sorte que sa sortie de combustible sapproche de lorifice de sortie du conduit de façon à ce que la base de ladite flamme entre dans ledit conduit jusquà la sortie de combustible; puis en déplaçant la lance de façon à attirer la sortie de combustible et la flamme attachée à celle-ci à lécart de lorifice de sortie et dans le conduit; et en augmentant le débit doxydant gazeux dans ledit conduit, de telle sorte que la combustion du combustible à lintérieur du conduit chauffe loxygène imbrûlé qui émerge sous la forme dun flux doxydant chaud.
