A remote control telephony system and method. The system includes a remote input device for producing a signal indicative of a desired communication or command, and a telephony device. The remote device may be a television remote control. The telephony device includes a signal receiver for receiving the communication or command signal, and a processor in communication with the signal receiver for invoking a communication and/or telephony function of the telephony device in response to the signal transmitted by the remote input device.
