ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A remote control apparatus includes a modulator for modulating a carrier signal with a remote-control voice signal. A transmitting circuit serves to transmit an output signal prom the modulator when a recognition requirement signal is inputted. The recognition requirement signal requires a recognition of the voice signal. A receiving circuit receives the signal transmitted by the transmitting circuit. A carrier detector serves to detect a carrier in an output signal from the receiving circuit, and serves to output a recognition requirement signal. A demodulator subjects the output signal from the receiving circuit to a demodulating process, and outputs a voice signal. Only when the carrier detector outputs the recognition requirement signal, a speech recognition circuit identities a type of the voice signal outputted prom the demodulator and outputs a control signal which depends on the identified voice signal type. A control circuit serves to control a controlled device in response to the control signal outputted from the speech recognition circuit.
