ABSTRACT A bumper/bird throwing device which is used to launch bumpers/birds during training or competition of retrieving hunting dogs. The device is able to be operated manually or remotely by the use of radio signalling. The device comprising a firing device which is used to propel a piston within a cylinder whereby the piston protrudes from the cylinder at one end which has a bumper/bird launcher. The piston is then decelerated within the cylinder and its movement is stopped whereby the bumper/bird which is not restrained is thereby launched into the air. The piston is retained within the cylinder and is easily reset for its next launching operation. -1-
