A remote humidistat includes a control plug, connected to an electrical outlet and providing power to a humidity producing device such as a humidifier or vaporizer, and a humidistat control, measuring the humidity in the air and providing signals based on the comparison of that humidity and a setting. The humidistat control is attached to the control plug and may be located away from the humidity producing device. This allows for more accurate humidity measurements. The control plug accepts the conventional power cord of the humidifier or other device, or is wired directly to the device. The plug provides power to the humidifier or device only if the humidity of the room should be raised. Any sort of environmental sensor may be thus used to control the delivery of power to a device.
