The invention relates to a system (and devices) for performing selective and unmanned aerial logging "off the sump"; thereby eliminating the need for clear cutting and most of the associated roads. The net result is a controlled harvest that leaves the remainder of the forest intact and undisturbed. This is accomplished by using an explosive method (and device) to launch a pre-trimmed tree trunk, with a rocket powered vehicle attached to it at the appropriate location, to a safe elevation above the tree line. Once this elevation is attained, the rocket powered vehicle kicks-in to support and carry the log to a predetermined location using a missile guidance system. Other devices are then deployed to control the rate of descent and landing of the vehicle and its cargo. The complete flight (from blast off to landing) is remote control operated.
