ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cathode plate for the electrodeposition of metal is provided with a non-conducting edge strip which may be readily positioned or removed by mechanical means. Parallel projections from a main body of the strip have upper, lower and central portions. The upper portion is adapted to engage the cathode plate in a close-fitting manner with each projection having at its edge remote from the main body a bevelled outer surface intersecting the corresponding inner face to define an acute angle with the inner face. The lower portion is also adapted to engage the cathode plate in a close-fitting manner. Relative loose fitting of the central portion permits easier placement of the edge strip onto the cathode plate by mechanical means which first engages the upper portion and then pivots the edge strip for engagement of the lower portion. Optional guiding wings may extend from the uppermost parts of the upper gripping portion.
