The invention provides a maintainable rotator with light-emitting slots for use in an electric fireplace flame simulator. A light source is mounted within a rotatable hollow cylinder, the cylinder comprising two flexible half-drum panels mounted on a pair of half-drum panel flange retaining rods between rotator end plates. The panels can be disengaged from the flange retaining rods by squeezing either panel in order to provide access for changing the light source.
