ABSTRACT A method for lowering derluidization during fluidized bed regeneration of spent zinc chloride catalyst comprising providing a fluidized bed regenerator having fluidizable bed material, feeding spent zinc chloride catalyst to said fluidized bed regenerator, withdrawing a portion of said fluidizable bed material from said fluidized bed rege- nerator, washing said portion of said fluidizable bed material with aqueous acid to produce washed fluidizable bed material, conveying said washed fluidizable bed material to said fluidized bed regenerator.
