A B S T R A C T A process for the removal of acid gases (H2S, CO2 and COS) from a gas mixture by contacting the gas mixture with an aqueous solution containing at least 5% by weight water and comprising: a) a physical solvent for acid gases, e. g. sulfolane; b) a tertiary amine (e.g., methyl-diethanolamine or diethyl- monoethanolamine); c) a secondary and/or primary amine with PKB which is not lower than the PKB of the tertiary amine minus one (e.q., di-isopropanol- amine), in an amount of 1 to 50 mol.% calculated on the said primary, secondary and tertiary amines together.
