- 19 - ABSTRACT The invention concerns a process for removing aluminium from an aluminosilicate by contacting a mixture of the aluminosilicate material and a halogen-reactive source of silicon with a source of halogen. The process may be used to remove aluminium from a wide range of aluminosilicate materials and is particularly useful for improving the catalytic activity and hydrothermal stability of crystalline aluminosilicate zeolites.
