REMOVAL OF COPPER CONVERTER MUSH ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for removing the mixture of high molting point nickel oxides, copper blister copper and in cases highly oxidized iron silicate slag ("mush") formed in a copper converter by the introduction of a molten copper-nickel-iron-silicon formulation. The formulation reduces the mush to a liquid slag and metal phase while eliminating the environmental problems encountered by the treatment of the mush with sulfur containing matte.
