An apparatus (10) for removing magnetic particles from a mud slurry is disclosed. The apparatus (10) includes one or more endless belts or chains (12) enclosed almost wholly within a pipe (22a). A motor (28) drives the chain (22) around the pipe (22a). When the pipe (22a) is located within a mud slurry, magnetic particles in the mud slurry are drawn to the pipe (22a) and carried along the outside and away from the slurry until a collar (29) is reached. Once so separated the particles can be collected for disposal. The chain (12) comprises a series of units linked together. Each unit includes a magnet (50) with pole pieces (51a, 51b) at either pole to direct magnetic flux. Wear discs (52a, 52b) prevent the magnets (50) and pole pieces (51a, 51b) from abrasion as they are drawn through the pipe (22a). Units can be included in the chain (12) which units do not include a magnet, thereby providing a break in the field, allowing particles to fall away from the collar region.
La présente invention concerne un appareil (10) à éliminer des particules magnétiques d'une boue. L'appareil (10) comporte une ou plusieurs courroies ou chaînes sans fin (12) enfermées presque en entier à l'intérieur d'un tuyau (22a). Un moteur (28) entraîne la chaîne (22) autour du tuyau (22a). Quand le tuyau (22a) est situé à l'intérieur d'une boue, le particules magnétiques à l'intérieur de la boue sont attirées vers le tuyau (22a) et emportées le long de l'extérieur hors de la boue jusqu'à atteindre un orifice (29). Après séparation, on peut recueillir les particules pour les éliminer. La chaîne (12) est constituée d'une suite d'unités reliées les unes aux autres. Chaque unité comprend un aimant (50) dont les pôles inducteurs (51a, 51b) sont polarisés pour diriger le flux magnétique. Des disques d'usure (52a, 52b) protègent les aimants (50) et les pôles inducteurs (51a, 51b) de l'abrasion par frottement pendant la circulation dans le tuyau (22a). On peut placer dans la chaîne (12) des unités sans aimant, ce qui provoque une interruption du champ mise à profit pour laisser retomber les particules depuis la zone de l'orifice.
