ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for purifying acetonitrile by removing oxazole therefrom. The process comprises contacting acetonitrile with molecular chlorine and thereafter separating the oxazole-chlorine reaction product from the thus treated acetonitrile. The purified acetonitrile is useful as a solvent in applications which require exceptionally pure acetonitrile. PI-0335
