ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to the removal of a metal or alloy, such as platinum, from the surface of a body, in particular turbine blades, by forming close to or in contact with the surface one or more other metals, such as sodium, which will alloy with the metal or alloy to be removed. By forming the one or more other metals in situ, for example by electro- lytic methods, attack of the underlying surface, such as occurs when removal is effected by dipping the body in a bath of molten metal, is avoided.
