A process for removing silica from bauxite is disclosed. The method includes the step of mixing bauxite with a caustic liquor to form a mixture and to dissolve and stabilise at least a substantial part of the reactive silica from the bauxite. The caustic liquor is selected to have a high caustic concentration and a high alumina content. The method further includes the step of separating the mixture into a solids containing component and a liquor having a high level of dissolved silica.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de séparer la silice de la bauxite. Selon le procédé, on mélange la bauxite à une liqueur caustique, de façon à former un mélange et à dissoudre et stabiliser au moins une grande partie de la silice réactive provenant de la bauxite. On choisit une liqueur caustique ayant une concentration caustique et une teneur en alumine élevées. Puis on sépare le mélange de façon à obtenir un composant contenant les solides et une liqueur ayant une teneur élevée en silice dissoute.
