REMOVING RAILS FROM A RAILBED ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disused rails ace removed from a railbed by a system including a rail car which is pushed along the rails ahead of a vehicle together with a skid member behind the vehicle which acts. to rip the rails as the vehicle moves forwardly. The skid member includes two pairs of guide elements which simultaneously lift both rails so that the rails tend to move directly vertically and pull all of the spikes from the ties. The vehicle includes a grapple arrangement which lifts each fail section separated from the rail to transport it from the separated position onto the rail car for transportation along the rail.
