A process and apparatus for removing waste ink from a capping station on a low cost integral capping, priming and wiping station for a thermal ink jet printer. In particular, the prime operation is repeated so that the scanning carriage (containing the ink jet printhead) travels past the capping position which breaks the vacuum seal and causes waste ink in the cap volume to be released into the pump chamber, thus cleaning the cap volume of excess ink. The additional prime cycle does not remove ink from printhead orifices because the scanning carriage travels away from the capping position as vacuum is applied.
Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour l'enlèvement des résidus d'encre récupérés par un poste intégré et peu coûteux de nettoyage, d'amorçage et d'essuyage de buses d'imprimante thermique à jet d'encre. En particulier, l'amorçage est répété de manière que le chariot de balayage (qui porte la tête d'imprimante à jet d'encre) dépasse le poste de nettoyage pour briser le vide et forcer l'évacuation de l'encre résiduelle contenue le capuchon-nettoyeur vers le corps de la pompe d'injection, assurant ainsi la vidange de l'encre excédentaire. Le cycle d'amorçage additionnel n'a pas pour effet de chasser l'encre des buses de la tête d'imprimante puisque le chariot de balayage s'éloigne du poste de nettoyage lorsque le vide est engendré.
