A masonry anchoring unit for use to anchor a masonry veneer to a back-up material. This anchoring unit has a stopper sleeve and veneer anchoring unit that are slidably mounted onto the shaft of a screw or a bolt. The stopper sleeve can be adjusted in length so that the veneer anchoring unit which preferably consists of a radially expandable sleeve in which can be forced a wedge shaped sleeve, is always positioned inside the masonry veneer. Fastening of the screw or bolt in the back-up material causes the veneer anchoring unit to expand and be wedged into the masonry veneer, thereby cause the masonry veneer to be anchored to the back-up material via the screw or bolt.
