Boards of lumber or similar material having knotholes or other defects in an edge region are repaired by cutting an opening in the edge region to remove the defect and by filling the opening with a conforming plug formed of hardened mastic or of pieces of solid material which are adhered together. The opening extends inward from the edge of the board and is of greater extent at a location spaced inward from the edge than it is at another location that is closer to the edge. The expanse of the opening preferably increases at a first depth within the board and decreases at a second depth within the board. The configuration of the opening interlocks the conforming plug into the board thereby preventing ejection of the plug.
Pour réparer les panneaux de bois d'oeuvre ou de matériau similaire comportant des trous de noeud ou d'autres défauts sur leur bord, on découpe une ouverture dans ce bord pour en retirer le défaut et l'on remplit l'ouverture en question d'un bouchon, adapté à la forme du trou, en mastic durci ou en morceaux de matériau solide collés ensemble. L'ouverture est creusée vers l'intérieur du panneau à partir du bord; le volume de cette ouverture est plus important à un niveau situé plus loin vers l'intérieur du panneau qu'à un niveau de profondeur plus rapproché du bord. L'aire de cette ouverture, de préférence, augmente jusqu'à un premier niveau de profondeur du panneau, puis décroît jusqu'à un deuxième niveau de profondeur. Ainsi, la configuration de cette ouverture provoque l'enclavement du bouchon dans le panneau et l'empêche d'en être éjecté.
