TITLE REPEATED ELICITOR TREATMENT, A METHOD FOR SEMICONTINUOUS METABOLITE PRODUCTION BY PLANT CELLS CULTURED IN VITRO ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE It has been found that plant cells do not need to be transferred from growth medium to production medium for the production of phytochemicals when treated with elicitors. It has further been found that the phytochemicals appear in the medium in quantities which allow for (a) extraction of the phytochemicals from the medium rather than the cells and, (b) repeated elicitor treatments of such plant cells with consequent reduction in the time needed to produce comparable quantities of such phytochemicals. These findings have allowed new, simple batch and semi-continuous methods for the production of such phytochemicals be developed.
