ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: This invention relates to an apparatus for the repro- cessing of spent nuclear fuels or fertile materials containing uranium or plutonium or thorium, characterized in that it is formed at least in part of hafnium or a hafhium alloy, such part thereby exhibiting high corrosion resistance, high neutron capture cross section, and good forming and welding character- istics. The hafnium or alloy may be a coating on steel or titanium or may itself be coated with enamel or ceramic. The apparatus is especially suited for use in the continuous multi-stage extractive separation of compounds also involving electrolytic reduction.
