ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An assembly enabling exacting reproducibility of relative positioning of a base member and a mating member having part- icular utility for prealigned optical assemblies. The base and mating member are configured to be in contact with each other, when assembled, at only three non-collinear areas and a first locating means and first matching hole are configured to preclude translational motions of said mating member rel- ative to said base member in any direction parallel to a plane defined by said contact areas and a second locating means and a second matching hole are configured to preclude rotational motion about the axis of said first locating means while permitting expansional translation.
