A residential delivery box system including a delivery container, an anchor, and a lock for intersecuring the two. The anchor is adapted to be permanently affixed outside a building. The delivery box may be selectively locked to and unlocked from the anchor, enabling the delivery box to be preloaded at a central location. In one embodiment, one lock mechanism both secures the container to the anchor and secures the container against unauthorized access. In another embodiment, the anchor accepts containers of varying sizes. In yet another embodiment, the container automatically locks to the anchor as the container is moved into position, eliminating the need for the delivery person to carry a key.
