ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A residual ink detection mechanism for detecting the amount of residual ink within an ink container of an ink jet printer is disclosed wherein the ink container comprises a flexible bag, and electrodes are provided at least at opposite positions of this bag to constitute a capacitor, so that the amount of residual ink within the ink container may be detected by detecting the electrostatic capacity between these paired electrodes. - 11 -
