REVISED ABSTRACT - CANADA A rail assembly comprising a rail having a rail head for directly supporting a vehicle wheel and resilient support means securing said rail to a rail bed. The resilient support means comprises elastomeric material acting between confronting bearing surfaces defined by a base member and rail location member and disposed on each side of a vertical plane containing the rail. The elastomeric material provides the sole sig- nificant load bearing connection between the base member and rail location member and at least one of the confronting bearing surfaces on each side of the plane is inclined relative to the vertical and horizontal.
