Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to apparatus for stripping printing ink from a rotating printing roll in rotogravure presses with the help of a doctor knife which is removably attached to a holder adapted to hold the stripping edge of the knife in engagement with the printing roll with a pre- determined engagement pressure. The doctor knife is formed as a thin flexible steel strip which is mounted in an auxiliary holder which is, in turn, mounted in the main holder of the apparatus. The steel strip is resiliently clamped at several locations to the auxiliary holder. The strip flexes in use to adjust to any uneveness in the roll. The fact that the knife can be made by cutting appropriate lengths from standard steel strip ensures a very low cost for the knife.
