A resin curable butyl rubber compound particularly suitable for use in tire curing bladders. The compound includes butyl polymers having unsaturation levels in excess of 1.50 mol% and from 0.5 to 2 phr of a 2-hydroxybenzyl alcohol. The alcohol helps to reduce the level of unsaturation in the compound during resin curing, which is advantageous in improving oxidative resistance of the compound without comprising the critical physical properties that lead to improved curing bladder cycle life. This allows commercially available grades of butyl to be used that have higher levels of unsaturation than are typically tolerated in curing bladder applications.
