A method for preparing a phenolic resin, the method including a first stage in which an aldehyde compound is reacted with a phenol compound in a molar ratio of aldehyde to phenol of less than 1 in the presence of a catalyst such that the pH does not rise above about 10.5 to form an intermediate product; and a second stage in which the intermediate product is reacted with additional aldehyde compound such that the molar ratio of aldehyde to phenol is at least 1 in the presence of a strongly alkaline catalyst.

Un procédé de préparation d'une résine phénolique comprend une première étape au cours de laquelle un composé aldéhyde est mis en réaction avec un composé phénol selon un rapport molaire aldéhyde/phénol inférieur à 1, en présence d'un catalyseur et à un pH qui ne dépasse pas environ 10,5, pour former un produit intermédiaire; et une seconde étape au cours de laquelle le produit intermédiaire est mis en réaction avec un composé aldéhyde additionnel de sorte que le rapport molaire aldéhyde/phénol soit d'au moins 1, en présence d'un catalyseur fortement alcalin.
