ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A resistance welding apparatus for joining pipes end to end, comprising at least two pipe gripping means each including a pair of articulated side members and axially aligned for mutual axial movement, each of the pipe gripping means comprising at least one bracket fixed against rotation about the axis of rotation of the side members, at least one double-arm lever pivoted on the bracket for each of the side members, an extension spring interconnecting similar arms of the levers; each side member comprising a gripping jaw, a swinging jaw pivoted thereto for abutting against the pipe surface in its operating position, a stop for limiting the movement of each lever relative the corresponding one of the side members in the direction of the action of the extension spring, while the other arm of each lever being operatively connected to the corresponding of the swinging jaw; and welding transformers electrically connected to the gripping jaw.
